Project Overview
In 2017, Firelands High School reached out to Farnham Equipment Company (FEC) to assist on some upgrades to their existing outdoor grandstands. Among the items they wished to have completed was: 1) adding mid aisle handrails to meet code requirements and 2) find a solution to preserve the aisle steps throughout the years. Ultimately, FEC provided galvanized metal caps to cover the existing steps while also extending them from 3’0” to 4’0” in width.
These solutions cost the school a fraction of what it would have had they opted to fully replace the existing stadium seating, saving thousands upon thousands for the district. Not only that, but this customized solution for the outdoor steps has preserved the steps since 2017, adding even more additional savings to the school thanks to the customized approach FEC took. This has become an attractive option other customers have now discussed with FEC to extend the life of their outdoor grandstand steps without having to replace them prematurely.
This project has been referenced over the past eight years to numerous customers as a custom solution FEC can provide that extends a school’s equipment while taking into account cost savings compared to fully replacing an outdoor stadium. With all the wear and tear steps encountered through the elements, adding a level of protection and cover from these metal caps has made the investment worth every penny for Firelands high school. Below, FEC has documented the last seven years to show how the product continues to hold up (due to COVID-19 restrictions, FEC was unable to capture the 2020 school year).
