The new Berkshire Local K-12 PRIME School Campus was completed in the late spring of 2022.

“PRIME” stands for Partners in Rural Innovate Models of Education. A partnership between Kent State University and Geauga Growth aimed to bring new school campuses to various districts within the county. This included the school districts of Berkshire, Newbury, and Cardinal. This new Berkshire Local building is a collaboration between ICON, C.T. Taylor Construction, and BSHM Architects.  Farnham Equipment Company (FEC) received a large bid package to perform multiple scopes of work on this new Berkshire campus.

As you enter the building, millwork from Stevens Industries is visible at the custom reception desks. At every level, custom millwork is present in the administrative areas. FEC installed Stevens Advantage Casework throughout the building in classrooms, art rooms, music rooms, science labs, and more.  The architect selected a neutral, Astro Strandz finish for the casework to compliment the bright school colors that are seen throughout the building.  Additionally, the science labs feature pass-through fume hoods from Air Master Systems.

The gymnasium features two banks of wall-attached MAXAM telescoping bleachers from Hussey Seating Company. This seating holds over 1,000 spectators and includes several of Hussey’s available custom options: Custom color aisle and front rails, custom Xtreme Badger Graphic Logos, custom court signs, and custom step-signs that say “Berkshire Badgers”. The athletic equipment in the gym provided by FEC features basketball backstops, a divider curtain, volleyball equipment, and wall pads from Performance Sports Systems (PSS).

The performing arts area features 272 fixed Quattro Upholstered Auditorium Chairs from Hussey Seating Company. These upholstered chairs came with a neutral, Moonbeam fabric finish.  As needed, additional seating for the auditorium area is provided by a Hussey MAXAM+ reverse fold telescoping seating bank. By using the reverse-fold platform, Berkshire added an additional 344 fold-down Metro chairs to use when necessary.  This bank opens in a reverse motion into the Cafetorium for use and closes forward when not in use to recover space in the Cafetorium. The Metro chairs attached to the reverse-fold platform match the fixed seating in the auditorium below.

This was a large project for FEC including a wide scope of service and hundreds of man-hours to complete the work. The quality and precision of the work performed by FEC’s in-house installation team on this project was impressive. These large projects showcase why Farnham Equipment Company continues to be a leading competitor in the educational market.
