Project Overview
Flint Community Schools were in desperate need to upgrade their current auditorium seating. When considering a full replacement project, the projections would cost the district over $200,000, funds they did not have at the time. While deliberating internally about their options, the district was given Farnham Equipment Company’s (FEC) information and promptly contacted David DeCan, FEC’s Service Solutions Consultant. Upon review of the existing seating, FEC made the determination that doing a “tune-up” to the auditorium space would achieve what the district was looking for, at a fraction of the cost of a full replacement project.
The current auditorium space had 550 seats in it, and through the tune-up, FEC was able to make the necessary repairs by utilizing 5-6 rows of seating that were not necessary, and repurposing some of those parts to fix the front 3-rows of seating for the school. This tune-up also included repairing floor attachment hardware, seat backs and seat pan hardware, while identifying potential damages to floor stanchions, arms, and fabric.
This tune-up was a huge cost savings move that allowed the district to continue to utilize their necessary seating space, while being mindful of limited spending options. By going with this tune-up inspection, the district saved $175,000 to get the chairs updated to how they needed without having to fully replace their existing seating quite yet. The district was thrilled at this solution provided by FEC. This turned out to be a great project to add to FEC’s growing Michigan project list.
