The start of the 2013-2014 school year is approaching fast – and for some is already here! As we ease out of the grandstands and into the gymnasium, it will be good to check out your telescopic bleachers and athletic equipment. Open and close everything to take a look to make sure everything is operating properly. Here are a few tips to get you back in the game:
Telescopic Bleachers – Check below the Deck:
- Loose, Missing Bolts, Nuts & Misc. Hardware
- Cracked Welds
- Bent or Missing Parts
- Proper Floor & Wall Connections
- Missing or Damaged Wheels
- Bracing & Supports
- Floor & Row Locks
- Electrical Wiring & Connections
- A clean bearing surface for proper operation (Dust accumulates most where bleachers sit while in the closed position). Especially if you have just had your floor redone.
Telescopic Bleachers – Check above the Deck:
- 4” Sphere Safety Check: Required by Code, “Open guards shall be constructed of materials such that a 4-inch diameter (102mm) sphere cannot pass through any opening.”
- Loose, Missing Bolts, Nuts & Misc. Hardware
- Cracked or Splintered Seats
- Bent or Missing Parts
- Proper Aisle Ways & Hand Rails
- Secure Closed Walking Surface
- Guard Rails & Closure Panels
- Proper Warning & Operation Signage
Athletic Equipment:
- Loose or Missing Bolts, Nuts & Misc. Hardware
- Kinked or frayed cables/proper slack in cables
- Pulleys operating properly
- Backboard pads in good condition
- Check for holes/rips/tears in Volleyball Nets, Curtains, and Batting Cages
