Project Name: Arcanum-Butler Agricultural Education Facility
Owner: Arcanum-Butler School District
Architect: Garmann Miller Architects
Construction Manager: H.A. Dorsten, Inc.
Scope: Provide and Install Lab Casework, Educational Casework and Athletic Equipment
Completion Date: June 2020
After a 20 year absence, Arcanum-Butler School District reinstated Agricultural classes for its students in 2016-17. Fueled by students’ desire within the district, the program had grown to over 200 students when it became evident that added space was necessary.
The space presented challenges for more hands-on opportunities for students, causing a bottleneck in maximizing the education outlets. Through generous donations throughout the community, funding for a new Agricultural Education facility came to fruition. The new facility not only provided the additional space needed, but would give students opportunities to learn about woodworking, metalworking, mechanics and agriscience. The agricultural wing also included a lab space, greenhouse, tool crib and storage space.
Farnham Equipment Company installed Educational Casework by Stevens Inc. throughout the new classrooms of the Agricultural Wing. These provided a sleek and modern look to the new building. In addition, we provided Lab Casework through ICI for one classroom. In the new athletic facility, you will see netting from Performance Sports Systems that allows for a flexible batting cage for the school.
This project was unique in that it was driven primarily through the community’s desires with Farnham having the available resources to fill some of the needs of the project. The netting for the batting cage is a unique application for schools looking for flexible spacing for their facilities as well.
